To quiet the mind and energize the body, I use the purity and healing powers of essential oils, reflexology strokes as well as Swedish massage, Shiatsu Donâ??t forget the loved ones on special days (Anniversaries, Birthdays, Christmas, Valentines) or just because they are worth it. Gift certificates are available. Clinical research has shown massage therapy may: - Be more effective for chronic back pain than other complementary therapies. - Promote relaxation and alleviate the perception of pain and anxiety in cancer patients. - Improve circulation and reduce pain associated with diabetes. - Reduce post-traumatic headaches better than cold pack treatments. - Lessen pain and muscle spasms in patients who have undergone heart bypass surgery when part of hospital-based surgery treatment. - Stimulate the brain to produce endorphins â?? our natural pain killers. - Improve confidence by encouraging patients to effectively cope with their pain. MODALITIES: SWEDISH MASSAGE -One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques, Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. The disrobed client is covered by a sheet, with only the area being worked on exposed. Therapists use a combination of kneading, rolling, vibration, percussion, and tapping movements, with the application of oil, to reduce friction on the skin. Massage benefits include relaxing and toning your muscles; assisting the venous flow of blood; soothing the nervous system; encouraging the lymphatic flow; and stretching the connective tissue of joints. MEDICAL MASSAGE- Assessment and evaluation of injury is key to recovery. Session will start 10 minutes prior treatment in order to establish the treatment course. Doctorâ??s diagnostic is welcomed. AROMATHERAPY -The use of essential oils (extracted from herbs, flowers, resin, woods, and roots) in body and skin care treatments is known as aromatherapy. Used as a healing technique for thousands of years by the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, essential oils aid in relaxation, improve circulation, and help the healing of wounds. Specific essential oils are blended by the Aroma therapist and added to a carrier oil, such as almond oil, to be used during the massage. Each oil has its own unique characteristics and benefits. BREAST MASSAGE- This technique entails specific kneading, rubbing, and/or squeezing strokes applied to the soft tissue of the breast to increase lymph and blood flow. As poor circulation to this area can produce uncomfortable symptoms, and breast scarring caused by surgery and/or trauma can cause painful syndromes and obstruct blood and lymph flow, breast wellness becomes increasingly important. The practice of breast massage should be in conjunction with (and not a substitute for) regular self-breast exams. If a lump is found in the breast, the area should not be massaged until a physician is consulted. REFLEXOLOGY - Based on an ancient Chinese therapy, reflexology involves manipulation of specific reflex areas in the foot, hands, and ears that correspond to other parts of the body. Sometimes referred to as zone therapy, this bodywork involves application of pressure to these reflex zones to stimulate the functions of body organs and relieve areas of congestion. Similar to acupressure principles, reflexology works with the body's energy flow to stimulate self-healing and maintain balance in physical function. This technique is used to reduce pain, increase relaxation, and stimulate circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids. It is especially useful in stress-related illness and emotional disorders. Reflexology is also convenient in cases where an area of the body is traumatized or diseased to the extent that direct manipulation is not appropriate. PRENATAL/PREGNANCY MASSAGE- Technique performed only after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Many methods of massage and somatic therapies are both effective and safe prenatal and during labor and postpartum periods of womenâ??s pregnancies. Prenatal, specific techniques can reduce pregnancy discomforts and concerns and enhance the physiological and emotional well-being of both mother and fetus. Skilled, appropriate touch facilitates labor, shortening labor times and easing pain and anxiety. In the postpartum period, specialized techniques rebalance structure, physiology, and emotions of the new mother and may help her to bond with and care for her infant. Massage treatments by appointment only. Ph: 718-896-0070 A 24hr notice of cancellation is greatly appreciated.
